Метан
Преимущества метана заключаются в выделении значительно менее токсичных выхлопных газов, в сравнении с топливом на основе нефтепродуктов. Для хранения метана необходимы специальные легкие, но прочные баллоны, которые выдерживают давление в 20 МПа. Именно из-за этого для легковых автомобилей перейти на метан очень сложно, ведь газобаллонная аппаратура на 14% утяжеляет вес машины, замедляя на 5-6% ее скорость и увеличивая время разгона на 24-30%.
Однако источников природного газа в мире во много раз больше, чем нефти, да и стоит метан в два раза дешевле бензина, а потому постоянно проводятся разработки по совершенствованию технологий использования метана.
Пропан-бутан
В европейских странах этот вид топлива известен под маркировкой LPG и используется тремя миллионами владельцев автомобилей Шкода Октавия, Форд Фокус, Фиат 500 и других моделей.
Этанол
При невысокой стоимости, обеспечении максимальной мощности работы двигателя и сравнительно незначительных выбросах вредных веществ в атмосферу, этанол получил широкое применение и используется как самостоятельное топливо, или же его разбавляют бензином.
Метанол
При сгорании метанола углекислого газа в атмосферу выделяется в десятки раз меньше, чем от бензина, но и стоит топливо на основе метанола в два раза дороже. Для использования этого вида необходимо немного изменить конструкцию двигателя, однако все эти усилия стоят результата: в случае столкновения метанол отличается меньшей степенью взрывоопасности.
